Key Policies

For Community. By Community. What matters most to you is what matters most to Ariana. With a strong commitment to community engagement and transparent, inclusive governance, Ariana is dedicated to advocating for the priorities that are most important to all of us.

Ward 9 thrives when people feel comfortable moving through their neighbourhoods, whether on foot, bike, transit, or behind the wheel. Putting safety at the centre of how we design and manage our streets builds stronger, more connected communities. This means bringing back effective tools to reduce dangerous driving, adding calming measures that slow traffic where families live and play, and using proven strategies that prevent collisions before they happen. By planning neighbourhoods that prioritize walking, cycling, and livability, we can create streets that work for everyone while strengthening the sense of community across Ward 9.

  • Restore Automated Enforcement Where It’s Needed Most
    • Fight to restore Calgary’s authority to use photo radar and speed cameras in high-risk areas like playground zones and major intersections.
  • Expand Traffic Calming Across the City
    • Fast-track installation of speed humps, raised crosswalks, curb extensions, and traffic circles.
  • Scale Up Proven Road Safety Tools
    • Double “Your Speed” driver feedback signs in playground zones and residential areas.
  • Design Walkable, Slower Communities
    • Reduce cut-through traffic in residential neighbourhoods to protect safety and livability.

We deserve infrastructure that supports housing, keeps the city moving, and respects people’s time. Smarter planning means coordinating roads, transit, water, and utilities so projects are delivered efficiently and with less disruption. Clear timelines, accountable budgeting, and strong oversight help control costs and reduce delays. By putting communities at the centre of how we build, we can grow a city that connects homes to jobs and services while minimizing the frustration of long detours, noise, and endless construction.

  • Faster Timelines, Less Waiting
    • Set ambitious but realistic deadlines for infrastructure projects, rewarding early completion and penalizing delays.
  • Smarter Budgeting for Big Projects
    • Combine project-specific emergency funds into one shared city-wide fund, to control costs and ensure transparency.
  • Building Housing-Centred Infrastructure
    • Plan transit, roads, water, and utilities together to avoid duplication and cut costs.
  • Design Reducing Disruption for Communities
    • Set clear targets for noise, detours, and duration with strong community engagement.

Families and residents in Ward 9 deserve access to modern, high-quality spaces where they can learn, play, and connect. Calgary’s rapid growth has left too many communities behind, with long waitlists, outdated facilities, and limited options close to home. By investing in new recreation centres, expanding library access, and improving our parks and fields, we can make sure every neighbourhood has the amenities it needs. Strategic partnerships and smart planning will stretch every dollar further while creating vibrant, inclusive spaces that bring people together year-round.

  • Build the Facilities Calgary Needs
    • Partner with non-profits, post-secondary institutions, and the private sector to co-fund projects and maximize investment.
  • Library Access for Every Quadrant
    • Launch a Branch Library Growth Strategy to bring library service to every community, plus expand mobile and pop-up library options.
  • Parks for All Seasons
    • Improve field maintenance, expand regional trail connections, and partner with local sports groups for shared investment in facilities.
